Hurghada Diving: What a First Dive Looks Like
Diving · 2026-10-20

Hurghada diving has a reputation for clear water and easy access from the shore, but for a first-timer the real question is simpler: what actually happens on the day? If you have never worn a tank, the idea of breathing underwater can feel like a big step, and a clear picture of the day takes most of the mystery out of it.
This guide walks through our beginner scuba diving trip from the hotel pickup to the ride home, using the details from our own trip page. Programs can change with weather and sea conditions, and we confirm the final details with you on WhatsApp when you book.
Who the trip is for
Our scuba diving trip is designed for beginners, so no prior experience is required. You are guided step by step by certified instructors, and the group is kept small: there is a certified instructor for every two to three divers. That ratio means each person gets attention while learning how to breathe, equalise and move in the water.
The price is EUR 40 per person. If you have health questions, or you want to bring a friend who would rather stay at the surface, tell us when you book and we will explain the options.
- No diving certificate needed for this trip
- Guided by certified instructors, one for every 2 to 3 divers
- Non-divers can ask us about snorkeling instead

The day, step by step
Hotel pickup is between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM, and the transfer is included within Hurghada. After the ride to the marina you board the dive boat, which has a sun deck, a shaded lounge area and clean restrooms.
On the way out the instructors give a detailed briefing on safety and the underwater hand signals you will use, since you cannot talk below the surface. You are then fitted with your gear and make your two guided dives, each a short, relaxed experience rather than a long expedition.
- Pickup from your Hurghada hotel, 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM
- Boat ride, safety briefing and hand-signal practice
- Gear fitting with the instructor
- Two guided dives at two different dive locations
- Buffet lunch on board and time to snorkel between dives
- Transfer back to your hotel
What the dives are like
Each of the two dives lasts 15 to 20 minutes underwater at a depth of 5 to 8 meters. That is a shallow, gentle range, which is why it suits beginners: the light is bright, the reef is close and you do not need to go deep to see it.
Between the dives you can use the snorkeling gear on board, so you can stay in the water at the surface while you rest, or simply relax on the deck. We never promise particular fish or animals, because what you see depends on the day, but the Red Sea reef is the reason people come.
- Two dives, 15 to 20 minutes each
- Depth of 5 to 8 meters
- Snorkeling access between the dives
What is included and what is not
The trip price covers the things a first-timer would otherwise have to organise alone. Use the lists below to check what to budget for on the day.
- Included: round-trip hotel transfers, full diving gear (wet suit, BCD, regulator, mask and fins), two guided dives and a certified instructor
- Included: snorkeling gear, open buffet lunch, unlimited water, tea, coffee and soft drinks, and standard diving insurance
- Not included: underwater photos and videos (extra fee), diving courses such as PADI or CMAS certification unless pre-booked, personal expenses and tips
- Not included: the national park fee of EUR 7.00 per person

Safety and what to bring
The boat carries oxygen, first-aid kits and emergency equipment, and your instructor stays with the group throughout. Listen carefully during the briefing and ask anything you are unsure about before you enter the water, since that is the right time to ask.
- Swimwear and a towel
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for the boat
- A water bottle and any personal medication
- A photo of your passport or ID on your phone
- A little cash for tips and the park fee
Other ways to see the reef
If you want the underwater view without a tank, our island boat trips include guided snorkeling stops, and the Sindbad Submarine spends 45 to 50 minutes underwater. Both are good for mixed groups where not everyone wants to dive.
